20th Birthday Celebrations at Lifespan Catering Services

The catering division of Anglia Support Partnership celebrated its 20th birthday on 29 January 2011. For the past two decades, the Cambridge based business has been preparing and providing meals for the NHS and private hospital and nursing home patients around Cambridgeshire, Leicestershire, Norfolk, Suffolk and parts of London.
Lifespan Catering Services, the catering division of Anglia Support Partnership celebrated its 20th birthday on 29 January 2011. For the past two decades, the Cambridge based business has been preparing and providing meals for the NHS and private hospital and nursing home patients around Cambridgeshire, Leicestershire, Norfolk, Suffolk and parts of London. The tasty, appetising and nutritious “cook chill” meals have been instrumental in influencing public perception about hospital food.
During the run up to the 20th anniversary, invitations were extended to customers to go behind the scenes of the unit to see just how the food is prepared as well as sampling it for themselves. The tours were well received by the many visitors who gained an insight into just how many tonnes of carefully selected, seasonal fresh ingredients are used.
Head of Catering, Trevor Colcomb said; “We have established successful and long-standing partnerships with several growers, producers and suppliers which enables us to fulfil our commitment to be locally sustainable, as well as offering the hospital patients fresh, seasonal ingredients.”
“Appealing hospital food is paramount to a patient’s recovery. Often after an illness or surgery a patient’s appetite is affected and we hope the meals produced at Lifespan Catering Services go some way to restoring their normal eating habits.”
The unit works around the clock, 7 days a week to produce a staggering 32,000 portions of food each day.
Key statistics about Lifespan Catering Services:
- A team of around 50 members of staff are employed at the unit
- 10 million portions of food are prepared and produced every year
- Favourite meals with patients include; steak and kidney pie with puff pastry, sausages and gravy with mashed potatoes, stewed steak and dumplings and fruit sponge and custard
- Lifespan Catering Services hold the ISO9001 quality standard and ISO14001 environmental management standard.
